Getting Your Finances In Order

Finances are an essential part of better living. I’m talking about money. In this world you cannot live long without it. Yet, how well you live is not necessarily determined by how well you are financed. I know of some very rich folks whose lives are far from desirable. At the same time I know some rather poor people that seem to be very happy.

Here is the real key to finances and better living. Don’t live to make money. You have to have money to live, but it must not become what your life is all about. This will help you to be content whether you have been blessed with much or confined to a poor lot in life. If money is what you live for you will often be disappointed and never satisfied.

Getting your finances in order begins with the proper attitude toward money. The love of money will destroy your life. Learn how to use money wisely in this life and not be used by it. Be a good steward of your money. Possess it, don’t let it possess you. Make money work for you instead of you always working for money.

Five Financial Firsts

Here is a list of things that you need to do first in order to move toward financial stability in your life:

1. Find a job. Start somewhere or you will never get anywhere.

2. Work hard. Be on time. Give an honest day’s work whether you get an honest day’s pay or not.

3. Set aside at least 5% of your take home pay. A little savings now can grow into a lot in years to come. It also teaches you a valuable practice you will continue for the rest of your life.

4. Don’t spend what you don’t have. Wait until you can afford it. Patience will keep you out of debt, save you all that credit card interest and give you a sense of real accomplishment when you are able to purchase.

5. Enjoy the blessing of independence. Knowing that you are not a burden on others but a contributor to society will give you renewed confidence and lead to greater success in the future.
